How to Choose the Best Gigs

  • Save

The first thing you want to do when looking at a potential gig to purchase is to compare the ratings of each service offering. The higher the rating, the better chances you have at finding a good high-quality seller. You can also review each seller by clicking on the gig they are offering and browsing their information box on the right hand side of the gig. This box reveals a lot of helpful information such as what their seller level is. A seller’s level tells you how credible they are in the Fiverr Community. Levels are None, 1, 2, and Top Rated. Each level has a different set of accolades, and the best is Top Rated. If you have an opportunity to work with a Top Rated seller you can be assured that you’re getting a good service. Other things to look out for in this box is, how many previous orders they have completed and what the average review rating is for those orders. You will also find out what language they speak, what country they operate from, and how long they have been on Fiverr. I would recommend avoiding anyone who averages below a rating of 4 and also avoid anyone who recently started selling on Fiverr within the past six months. They may not have experience when it comes to providing excellent customer service on Fiverr and they may need time to tweak their service. You can’t afford to be their guinea pig. You’re looking for an experienced seller. Also, you want to pay attention to sellers that are from another country. They may not have command of your language which presents a huge problem with language barriers.

When selecting a gig, pay special attention to how long it will take to get your order delivered. The lead times vary from gig to gig so if you have a short timeline on your particular project this is something you want to factor in when choosing a seller. You might also want to consider how many orders are in query before placing your order. You’ll want to know where you are in line. Also be sure to read the reviews. The first thing I look at are the negative reviews. Reviews are listed at the bottom of each gig and they can be filtered by Most Recent, Positive, and Negative. I always look at the negative reviews first. I want to know what’s the worst thing people have said about this seller. If I can live with the risk of that possibly happening to me, I’ll keep moving forward with this seller. The next thing I look at is the positive reviews. I compare how many negative reviews they have to positive reviews. In my mind, their positive reviews must outweigh the negative ones in order for me to consider hiring them.

And last but certainly not least, review the pricing to make sure it’s fair and fits in your budget. Review the description to be sure that they are indeed offering what you need. Sometimes sellers will offer upgrades. You’ll want to check to see which package works best for you.  Always utilize the contact seller button to ask any questions you might have. It’s good practice to contact the seller before buying their gig just to make sure they are available and can do the job. You can use this as an opportunity to answer any objections or concerns you might have. Another thing is that sellers can offer you a custom gig if their packages don’t quite fit your needs. This will give you an opportunity to vet them even more by testing their communication skills. So, don’t be afraid to contact them with any concerns or questions.

Here are a few Fiverr gigs for musicians I found that can be quite useful and super affordable.

Writing Services for Musicians

Writing press releases, bios, and even sales copy is not the same as writing a new song. Excellent stanzas and rhyming skills cannot help you write an award winning bio or convince a venue to book you or your newest Twitter follower to buy your latest single. But a good copywriter with an understanding of consumer psychology can. Sometimes it’s helpful for a person outside of your sphere to write a catchy bio for you in the third person that will help you stand out in an overly saturated independent music market. Maybe you have an upcoming tour you’re preparing for and need a series of press releases written up for each tour stop. Maybe, you’re just not good at writing stuff and need it done for you. These are all gigs you can have done for you on Fiverr starting at just $5.

Graphic Design Services for Musicians

You can also get your CD cover designed on Fiverr! You can filter by type of artist you’re looking for as well. What I would suggest is to pick your budget, and spread it out between multiple orders from a variety of different sellers. You can ask a number of sellers to create your design and choose the best one. You can also show them all to your fans and see which one they pick. It will be a good reason to contact your fans and involve them in the process.

You can also have someone design your flyers, postcards, and posters. If you do a little digging you can find some very unique sellers that will help make your materials not only look professional, but stand out with an exceptional flare. Take this seller for example who offers unique one-of-a-kind hand drawn illustrations for show posters.

In the world of DIY, you can publish a CD project without ever setting foot in a costly studio. Producing a CD can cost upwards of $10k but with the right tools at your disposal, you can get the same quality service at a fraction of the price.

Hire Session Musicians

What’s a good album without a little session music from other musicians to help add that extra umph to your tracks? Like I mentioned before, you don’t have to step foot in a costly studio to create a good sounding CD project. Here are some Fiverr Gigs where other artists are offering themselves as session musicians at very affordable rates.

Audio Mixing Services

There are sellers on Fiverr who even offer audio mixing services. A good audio track has a great sound which can be achieved with good mixing. This is where multiple recorded tracks are blended together into one to make a smooth sound often by use of EQ, Reverb, Compression, adjusting levels, panning, and other cool engineering tricks.

Virtual Assistants

A good part of our work can be outsourced such as data entry, sending form letters, scouting for opportunities, looking up contact information, booking, social media management and so forth. These tasks can be outsourced by utilizing the skills of a good virtual assistant. It might take a few tries on Fiverr to get to one that you really like, but it can be well worth the effort once you do find a good assistant. Start by checking out this US based virtual assistant…

What Fiverr Gigs Should Musicians Avoid?

I wouldn’t recommend any promotions gigs. Unless the seller is extremely specific about how they’re reaching their audience and who their audience is, there’s really no way to target and control who sees your message with these types of gigs. Plus, people offering these gigs may be spamming their audience so there’s no real assurances that the audience will actually take your message seriously if it’s coming from these sellers. They may give screenshots as proof that they did what they said they did, but screenshots can be faked. I wouldn’t mess with these types of gigs. Besides, you can build your own fan profile and reach your ideal music fans on your own with more effective tactics.

I would also recommend staying away from SEO/backlinking types of gigs. These gigs boast that they can help you get to the top of search engines. The only problem is you’ll never know what kind of methods they are using. There are a lot of unsavory methods that are frowned upon by Google that can get you top results, but only temporarily. Eventually, though, when Google finds out what you’ve done, you can get blacklisted and penalized for it plummeting your website to a wasteland to never be seen again. It’s too hard to identify the black hat sellers from the white hat sellers so I’d say to leave that whole thing alone.

One thing to remember is that you get what you pay for. Even though some of these services are dirt cheap, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a quality gig.  Be very cautious about which sellers you choose. You should expect exactly what they are offering, but nothing more. If they don’t deliver on what they offer, feel free to comment about it in your reviews after the gig is completed, but don’t beat yourself up about it. Just move on to the next seller and chop that up to the cost of finding the right seller.

I love using Fiverr gigs for a whole slew of reasons. While it can be hard initially finding a seller that I can gel with, once I do it’s that much easier to get things done. Using Fiverr gigs can be super rewarding for independent artists. You can build your professional team based on your own budget.  There are many sellers on Fiverr offering services that could be the perfect fit for your music career building needs whether it is ongoing or one-off gigs on an as needed basis. The power is in your hands and your team is just a click away.

I’d love to hear your experiences and your thoughts on this. Have you used Fiverr? Do you have a preferred seller? What’s been your experience when using Fiverr? Tell me about it in the comments section. I’d love to hear from you.
