If you’re an artist or a band, we highly recommend a consistent blogging routine. Most DIY web hosts like Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, and WordPress include a blog feature with their websites, which makes setting one up extra easy. So why blog you ask? Besides allowing your fans to get to know you better and keep up to date on all the latest things going on with your music career, a blog is also a great way to bring in new visitors to your site if you’re strategic with what you write about.

If you can start to think of blog post topics in terms of SEO keywords and phrases, you should start to see more new visitors coming to your page. Ultimately more traffic to your site should lead to an increase in things like mailing list sign-ups,  album and merchandise sales, and more gig leads! SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is simply the process of increasing your website’s traffic by improving the chances of your site showing up in search engine results. So if someone does a Google search for ‘Live Music in Philadelphia,’ and you’re an artist based out of Philadelphia, you can create blog posts that increase the chances of your site showing up in those results.

10. ‘10’ Tips for Hiring A Band for Your (your city) (type of event)

Here you could list different things to consider when hiring a band. Some tip ideas would be how far in advance they should start looking for a band, ensuring there’s adequate power, tipping guidelines, paying attention to the band’s cancellation policy, how to determine a fair price, etc.. Again, you could write one of these for each type of event to ensure your site comes up in various search results.

As you can see, there are an endless number of topics you can blog about that can bring more people to your artist website and thus get you more fans and followers, more merchandise sales, and more gigs in the process.

Remember that in order for your posts to be the most effective, you want to make sure to include keywords that are actually trending in the title of your blog post. A trick for doing this is to simply begin to type in a search engine bar, and at some point a list of suggestions will pop up. These suggestions are based on search trends and are definitely worth considering since you know people are already looking for these things.

You should also try and include those same keywords in your blog post itself if possible, as well as attaching them to any images you include in the post via the image’s title, description, and caption. If your blog allows for the inclusion of meta-data in each post, as most do, then it’s best to fill that out as well and include the keywords again. For even more SEO brilliance, you should translate as many of these posts as you can into a video, add them to your YouTube channel, and link them to each other. The more content you have available on these topics the better chances you have at appearing high up on search results and that’s ultimately how people can discover you and your music online.
